The Whyte Secta-E is brand new for 2027 and it's one of the first electric hardtails to run the Avinox M2 drive unit. It comes in two builds. The standard Secta-E is set up for trail riding on 29inch wheels with Maxxis Rekon tyres. The Secta-E SUV takes the same frame, motor and batterand adds full mudguards, a rear rack and integrated lights so it works as a year-round commuter and adventure bike. Both use a 6061-T6 aluminium frame, a 130mm SR Suntour fork and a fixed 800Wh battery. What is the Avinox M2 drive unit
The Avinox M2 is the second-generation mid-drive motor from DJI'S subsidiary e-bike division, and there's a reason it has drawn as much attention as it has. It produces up to 120Nm of torque and 1000W of peak power from a 250W UK-legal motor, with five assistance modes including an Auto mode that reads your input and adjusts the assistance whilst on the fly, and a boost mode for short bursts on steep ground.
Power is supplied by a fixed 800Wh battery fixed into the down tube. (600Wh on the smallest frame size on Whyte Secta-E's)
Control runs through the Avinox DPC100 OLED display built into the top tube, paired with a small wireless controller mounted on the handlebars, and the system connects to the Avinox Ride app for cycling data and settings.
Like all e-bike motors, assistance cuts out at 15.5mph in line with UK EAPC law, so no license, tax or insurance is required.
Whyte Secta-E: the trail build
The standard Secta-E is the one to look at if most of your riding is off-road. It runs 29inch wheels front and rear on Whyte's own 30mm internal width tubeless-ready eMTB rims, wrapped in Maxxis Rekon 2.4inch tyres for fast rolling with enough grip for loose and rooty ground.
- The frame is 6061-T6 aluminium with precision-formed tubing, a 1x specific rear end, weather-sealed internal routing through the down tube and a SRAM UDH dropout, so drivetrain upgrades stay open to you later.
- A SR Suntour XCR36X air fork gives 130mm of travel with adjustable compression and rebound.
- A tranzX dropper post with size specific drop is fitted as standard, which is not something you always see at this end of the electric hardtail market.
- Shifting wise is Shimano CUES U6000 1x10 with an 11-48T cassette and a 36T chainring on 155m cranks.
- Braking is Tektro M5141 four piston hydraulic with a 203mm front and 180mm rear rotor.
Whyte Secta-E: the all-year build
The SUV has the same frame, motor, battery, fork, drivetrain and brakes as the standard Secta-E. Included with this bike is everything you would normally buy and bolt on yourself.
Full-length mudguards, rear rack and integrated lights come fitted, the front light is wired through the headset and mounted on the stem faceplate rather than clamped to the bar. The tyres also differ, changing to Schwalbe Smart Sam in a wider 2.6inch casing allowing better movement across tarmac, as well as more inflation volume for more stability and comfort on rougher surfaces.
