What is a Retül bike fit?

A Retül fit is a 3D motion-capture bike fitting. Small LED markers are attached to your ankle, knee, hip, shoulder, elbow and wrist, a sensor records the exact angle and travel of each joint while you pedal under load on your own bike. The bike fit is dynamic in nature, the Retül technology gives us data on how your body behaves on the bike after twenty minutes of work, when positional faults commonly show up. The system reports in millmetres and degrees rather than opinions, so every change we make is measured before and after so you can see the difference on screen.

It's the same system used by professional teams, and it's been the industry benchmark for dynamic fitting since 2007. Its brilliant at finding the small asymmetries that are responsible for the most persistent pain, and unfortunately invisible to the naked eye such as one leg tracking differently or a foot rolling inward under load.

Signs you need a bike fit

Almost nobody books a bike fit out of curiosity. They book because something hurts. The usual reasons riders come to us:

• Knee Pain - the most common complaint we see, and usually the most fixable. Saddle height, fore-aft position and cleat alignment account for the large majority of it,

Numb or tingling hands - too much body weight going through the bars. Normally reach or a bar height problem.

Lower back and neck ache- irritable sensations that arrive an hour into a ride and doesn't leave.

Saddle discomfort- often a position fault rather than a saddle fault. We'll tell you honestly which one you've got before you spend money on another saddle.

Foot pain or hot spots - Particularly on longer climbs.

You've just bought a new bike - and it doesn't feel right or comfortable

You're coming back to cycling - after time off, injury, or a few years off the saddle.

None of this requires you to be a competitive road rider or triathlete. Most people we fit are ordinary riders who simply want to stop hurting and get a more comfortable set-up.

What happens during your fit

We talk first.Your riding history, weekly hours, the terrain you actually ride, past injuries, and precisely what's bothering you. A fit for someone with a stiff lower back who rides the Camel Trail at weekends is a different session than a fit for someone chasing a sportive time.

We assess your body off the bike.Hamstring and hip flexibility, foot struture and arch height, leg length, spinal curve, shoulder mobility, knee tracking. Your body sets the boundaries of what positon is available to you. There's no sense prescribing a low aggressive setup to hip joints that wont allow it.

We capture you riding. Both sides and front-on, through the full pedal stroke, at realistic effort.

We change one thing at a time. Saddle height, setback, bar height, stem length, cleat position. Each adjustment is measured, ridden and re-measured. Where a component swap would genuinely help, we'll say so.
