Construction & Aerodynamics

The CCR45 is built around a 45mm deep hooked carbon rim with a 25mm internal width, a combination that delivers meaningful aerodynamic gain without sacrificing the tyre volume and stability essential for mixed-surface and gravel riding. The hooked rim architecture ensures compatibility across an exceptionally broad ETRTO range of 29mm to 71mm, with an optimal performance window of 32mm to 55mm — covering everything from a fast endurance road setup to a fully loaded gravel build. The carbon layup has been specifically optimised for the balance of lateral stiffness, impact resistance, and vertical compliance that all-road riding demands. Rims are tubeless-ready out of the box.

Hub & Drivetrain Interface

At the center of the wheelset sits the updated ERE IONA II hub, a refined design featuring a 3-pawl engagement system engineered for immediate, direct power transfer and long-term mechanical reliability. The hub runs on ERE Custom 6902 bearings, selected for both precision and serviceability. Lacing is handled by Alpina Extralite straight-pull spokes — a premium spoke specification known for its high strength-to-weight ratio — secured with Alpina brass double square ABT lock nipples that resist loosening under vibration and impact.

Weight

Complete wheelset weight comes in at 1575 grams, competitive with carbon all-road wheelsets costing considerably more and well within the range expected for performance-focused builds.

Development & Validation

During development, ERE Research subjected the wheelset to full ISO standard testing, completed all required UCI homologation procedures, and conducted extensive real-world field testing on the cobblestone sectors surrounding Roubaix — one of cycling's most demanding proving grounds for impact resistance, structural integrity, and handling stability. That validation extended to elite competition: the CCR45 was raced at Paris-Roubaix U19, finishing 5th — a direct confirmation of the wheelset's performance under race conditions most carbon components never face.
